Construction of the Kyaikhteeyoe cable car project, the first such service in Myanmar, connecting Yathaetaung and Kyaikhteeyoe hill in Kyaikhto, Mon State, is 90 per cent finished and is planned to open in the first week of December, according to the project officer.
“It is nearly completed. We are now doing the finishing touches to the main station and return station. A trial run of the cable car will take place in November,” said the unnamed official.
The trials will involve many steps, including tests without passengers, tests with loads approximating the weight of people, and finally with real passengers.
“Next, we’ll simulate a rescue effort in case of emergency,” he added. “With the help of international trainers from the IMMOOS company, we’ll give training course on emergency rescue.”.
MMOOS is an internationally renowned company that manufactures cable lift rescue systems, personal protective equipment against falls, and permanently mounted personal-protection equipment.
Concerning this project, the official said there were days when construction had to stop as the weather was severe.
The project was constructed by Sky Asia Co, which is jointly operated by Sky International and the Yadanar Shwe Sin Gyi company from Myanmar. It will cost more than US $ 20 million.
The Myanmar Investment Commission (MIC) gave permission for the project in January 2015 under a 50-year build-operate-transfer (BOT) system.
