Yangon-Dalla bridge construction gets underway

The Yangon-Dalla river bridge project will be started in January 2018 and currently ground clearing work is underway, a Dalla constituency legislator of Yangon Region Assembly said.

The bridge will connect Hponegyi Road on the Yangon side with the Bominyaung Road on the Dalla side.

Yangon Region Legislative Assembly Dalla Constituency 2 legislator Tun Yin said, “All structures built on this clearance area must be demolished by the end of November. Most of these structures are just fences and boundary walls, not the houses.”

These structures are owned by a total of 68 households and all compensations for demolishing these structures has been paid at a negotiated price.

The amount of total compensation already paid is about 3 billion kyat.

Legislator Tun Yin added that about US$20 million had already been spent on this bridge project for conducting a survey, soil tests, waterway tests and survey and other research work.

The bridge project is funded by Korea Economic Development Cooperation Fund with US$137 million and US$30 million by the Myanmar government.

Legislator Tun Yin said, “The bridge will be built using a loan. Frankly speaking, Korea does not give this bridge free of cost though this is friendship bridge. The loan must be repaid in 40 years with an interest rate of 0.01% per annum.”

Korean and Myanmar engineers are jointly working on the bridge survey and design.

The tenders were invited for bridge construction project only in this October to interested companies and then the Union Government will select the winning company from these tenders submitted.

The Yangon Region government banned the use of farmland for other means so that real estate prices near the bridge project were stable with no change of price, legislator Tun Yin said.

The people in Dalla Township will benefit from the construction of this bridge as it will improve connectivity with other regions and also improve people’s health, education and economy, Yangon Region Assembly legislator Tun Yin said.

This Yangon-Dalla bridge will connect Ayeyarwady Region and Yangon Region and it will be second entry port to Yangon Region from Ayeyarwady Region.
