Yangon Region Chief Minister Phyo Min Thein says it will fix the problems with the Yangon waterbus services within one month.
“The most crucial point is to ensure the safety of people and fair transport cost. This is our first step,” said Phyo Min Thein.
The current ticket fare for a single route is Ks300.
“The regional government is coordinating with the company to decrease the ticket fare for an additional route to Ks 200.” he noted.
Tint Tint Lwin, chair of Tint Tint Myanmar Company said plans for jetties, maps, and TV display of arrival times are all coming along. Already, there are seven jetties and maps of them have been published.
Each vessel is served by between four and eight staff and carries between 140 and 230 passengers. There are two vessel types. Hovercraft are imported, while ordinary vessels are locally made.
The Yangon waterbus operates 12 times daily. Commuters can access theYangon waterbus services by purchasing an Anypay card at ticket counters at jetties. Life-saving aids are carried onboard.
