Deluxe rubber factory in Dawei to start full operation in December

The quality rubber factory built near Thabya Village in Dawei Township, Taninthayi Region, has started test runs and will come into full operation in December, accordnig to factory manager Tin Oo.

Located on a 30-acre (12-hectare) land plot by Dawei-Htikhee Road 11 kilometres east of Dawei, the factory started construction in August last year and started trail runs on September 25 this year. It can produce more than 60,000 tonnes of rubber of international standard per day.

“As our product is high in quality,” Tin Oo said. “Bridgestone and Chinese and Singaporean companies have visited us, and they like the quality.

“They also talked about the technology they wanted. We studied the designs created by Thailand. Local rubber workers went to Thailand to work there because Thai rubber is globally marketable. If we meet such quality in Dawei, our workers will come back from Thailand. This is one of our objectives.”

Investment in the factory project is about K2 billion. There are about 50 workers at the factory and the number is due to increase to about 150. Plans are also underway to build two more quality rubber factories.

Aung Myot, chairman of Dawei District Rubber Growers Association, said low quality rubber in Dawei had led to low prices and losses for the growers. However, he said high-quality rubber would stabilise prices and create a strong market.

In Myanmar, most rubber plants are grown in Mon State and Taninthayi and Bago regions. Tanintyayi Region has over 300,000 acres (1212,000 hectares) of rubber plantations. Kawthoung District also has a quality rubber factory.
