Armed robbery at KBZ bank in Myeik

Myeik – An armed, helmeted man robbed a KBZ mini bank in Myeik on Tuesday afternoon, threatening employees and then escaping with about K27 million.

“We are still investigating the case. He came into the bank alone and stole money by threatening employees with a gun. We are trying to arrest him. We have CCTV footage of him,” said Police Captain Aye Min, head of Myeik township police force.

“He took about K27 million. Although bank employees and security guard tried to catch him, he managed to escape. He threatened them with his gun and made them put money into a bag,” said a police officer.

“The culprit took the money that was on a counter. We are still checking the amount of money. We lodged a complaint at the police station, but bank operations are carrying on,” said Nyo Myint, KBZ bank senior managing director.

The case is under investigation and police have not announced what charges would apply when the culprit is caught.

Locals said it the first bank robbery in Myeik.
