Mandalay Company to Get at Least 1000 More Three-Wheelers

The number of Mini Oway three-wheelers, introduced by Oway Taxi Service Co. in Mandalay will increase to 1000 within three months, said U Kyaw Min Swe, senior director and head of Oway Ride.

The local taxi company started with 30 three-wheelers in Mandalay on the last week of October.

“During this week, we place our three-wheelers at Maha Muni and other crowded areas like the railway station. In the coming week, we will extend our service to the general hospital and Zaycho market, but anyone from any place can call us. We are not replacing motorbikes. We tell cycle-carriers to switch to Mini Oway: It is a company to work with. Drivers can own those three-wheelers, at least,” he said.

Mini Oway three-wheelers not only target foreigners travelling to Mandalay, but also locals, he added.

After changing his life around, from lottery-ticket seller to three-wheeled Oway driver, Ko Nyein Aye earns around K20,000 daily, he said. “I’ve been driving it for five days now. It’s extremely convenient. I think that it will even be smoother if the number of bikes increase later on,” he said on October 25.

Mini Oway is becoming popular, and bikes are even used for the Kathina festival, said Ko Aung Thura from Lotaya car rental service. “Renting 20 three-wheelers from Set Mhu to Yay Ta Khun mountain only cost me K100,000.

“Mini Oway received positive reviews,” said U Kyaw Min Swe. “A user posted about Mini-Oway on Facebook and four ot five thousand people shared it,” he added.
