THE Ministry of Transport and Communications will officially announce the tender winning companies for Yangon Railway Station improvement project next month, according to a report of the Myawady Daily’s Monday edition.
The new plan is to develop commercial facilities, hotels and recreation complex on 62 acres of land plot within the compound of Yangon Railway Station.
The development project includes renovation and expansion of old Yangon Central Railway Station.
It is expected to take five years.
A spokesperson of the ministry said that not only domestic companies but international companies from Malaysia, Italy, South Korea, Qatar, Japan, Singapore, Canada and Viet Nam expressed their interest to take part in tender process.
This is the second time the transport authorities invited tender for the new scheme as they found no appropriate companies for the project in the first tender. This is why the ministry invited tender again.
Currently, scrutinisation processes are being made by the ministry to choose tender winners. The name of the winning companies is planned to be announced within December.
