Yangon International Airport welcomes its fifth millionth passenger this year

Yangon International Airport (YIA), the largest and busiest airport in Myanmar, welcomed its fifth millionth passenger today.

Mr Wong Foo Cheong, travelling on board Myanmar Airways International 8M-232 flight from Singapore arrived in YIA Terminal 1 at 3:15 pm and was warmly greeted by a welcoming party.

He received 1 Million MMK in cash in addition to a variety of other gifts valued at over 1 Million MMK. These gifts include a two-night stay in Horizon Lakeview Hotel and Resort in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, a Samsonite travel luggage, a Bering watch, an Artisan made-in-Myanmar bag, a JBL travel speaker, as well as other travel accessories.

Along with Mr Wong, passengers on the same flight were also part of the joyous occasion and received complimentary duty-free vouchers.

Last year, 5.45 million passengers passed through the airport. Approximately two-thirds of these passengers were of international travel, and 70% were from Asia.

With a growth rate of almost 9% in 2017, YIA is expected to end the year with 5.9 million passengers for 2017.
