The regional government is planning to turn 15 streets in Pazuntaung Township into one-way lanes, said Yangon Region Electricity, Industry and Transport Minister Nilar Kyaw during a parliamentary session held on November 30.
She was replying to a question raised by MP Khin Maung Win of No. 1 Pazuntaung Constituency about whether the regional government had a plan to turn two-way streets in Pazuntaung Township into one-way lane streets or not.
Officials recently took a field trip to examine traffic jams on Yay Kyaw Road, replied Nilar Kyaw, referring to staff of the Road and Bridge Department under the Yangon City Development Committee, The Township-City Development Committee, and the deputy head of the Township General Administrative Office.
“As a result of our inspection, [we agreed that creating] one-way lane streets could ease the traffic jams, and they have a backup plan if the traffic jam gets worse,” Nilar Kyaw told parliament.
Yay Kyaw Road would become a one-way lane from Upper Pazuntaung Road to Bogyoke Aung San Road. Other streets also assigned as future one-way lanes are: 49th, 50th, 51st, 52nd, 53rd, 54th, 55th, and 56th, along with Zizawar, Dawna, Yuzana, Wutkyaung and Myaungkyi streets.
