Online stock trading system planned for December launch

With the aim of increasing stock trading value at the Yangon Stock Exchange (YSX), the Myanmar Securities Exchange Supervisory Commission is putting final touches on a plan to introduce an online stock trading system in December, said commission member Htay Chun, at the December 6 Myanmar Investment Development Forum held at the IBC in Yangon.

The SECM is conducting a test-run of an online trading system in coordination with the YSX and securities companies. People are able to trade stocks online by computer or using a smartphone.

To develop capital markets, efforts will be made to increase the number of listed companies. A market promotion team will be formed with the cash assistance of Japan International Cooperation Agency. The plan includes discussions with private and public companies, to provide them necessary assistance on how to become listed ones and to aid private companies to go public.

On December 9, 2015, Myanmar officially opened the Yangon Stock Exchange, a first step toward forming a strong capital market. Stock trading at the YSX kicked off on March 25, 2016.
