For the safety of flights landing at Yangon International Airport, Yangon Region General Administration Department has issued an order dated November 28, banning drones and other unmanned aircraft (UA) in 16 townships in Yangon.
An official of the Yangon Region GAD said the covered townships are North Okkalapa, North Dagon and East Dagon in the east; Insein, Shwepyithar and Hlaingtharyar in the west; Mayangon, Hlaing, Kamayut, Kyeemyindaing, Sanchaung, Bahan and Seikgyikhanaungto in the south; and Mingalardon, Hlegu and Htantapin in the north.
Yangon International Airport is busy with domestic and international flights landing and taking off round the clock. Drones have been seen near the approaches to the runways.
According to Section 118 of the Code of Criminal Procedures, the Region GAD has banned drones and UA from within 23 nautical miles in length and six nautical miles in width, including runways to the south and north of Yangon International Airport, the statement says.
