Protest Against Fuel Station Held in South Oakkalapa

YANGON- Residents took to the street sto protest on Tuesday morning against a City Energy fuel station being opened near Parami road and Pinya in Ward No.5, South Okakalapa Township, Yangon.

The protesters want to see the station closed due to fire hazard.

“Mainly, dwellers are now worrying about fire hazard because fuel station has been situated in the ward,” said Nilar Myint, who is a member of the committee for demolishing the fuel station.

“That’s why we rejected it.”

Nilar Myint pointed out that there was a glue factory to the west of the fuel station.

The residents also held a protest against the fuel station in front of Ward Administrative Office in South Oakkalapa Township and the Township Development Committee’s Office, which allowed the station to open.

“We didn’t agree with the plan about opening of fuel station because the fuel station is very close to the ward. I told them that it shouldn’t be built,” said MP Moe Myint from No. 2 Constituency in Yangon.
