About 50 pc of tourist trips cancelled, suspended last year

At the instigation of some western media about Rakhine situations, about 50 per cent of tourist trips were cancelled and suspended last year, said Ohn Maung, Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism, at a coordination meeting on tourism development and the smooth operation of tourist entry, exit and visit, in Nay Pyi Taw on June 4.

Due to the Rakhine issue, the tourism sector saw a slight decline in 2017.

Currently, the number of tourists from the European countries has dropped slightly. But the number of tourists from Japan, South Korea and China is rising.

The ministry is making efforts to enable the people to understand the real situations in Rakhine state as there are misunderstandings and anxieties about the situations in Rakhine state. Thanks to it, tour companies start booking trips.

Not only basic facts such as destination, accommodation, transportation and food but also the smooth return of tourists is crucial.

The ministry is seeking every possible ways to ensure the smooth entry of tourists as tourists are less interested in touring the countries with difficult entry.
