Fifteen Austrian companies look for opportunities in Myanmar

An Austrian trade mission comprised of 15 leading Austrian companies visited Yangon and Nay Pyi Taw on Wednesday to explore business opportunities and promote bilateral trade and investment.

The luncheon, which was hosted by the Honorary Consul of Austria, was attended by the executives of 15 companies, and executives and officials of the local business community at Ikon Mart in Yangon.

The companies are global pioneers in healthcare, waste management, renewable energy, engineering, machinery and mining, furniture production, safety and security, financial services and consulting.

Their aim was to deepen existing relationships as well as establish new partnerships in the country, the Austrian Embassy said in a statement.

The event gave participants the chance to introduce their businesses and current areas of focus, and extol their business capabilities in the hope of developing long-term mutually beneficial relationships.

The visit was a follow-up to a very successful trade mission to Myanmar in 2017 by Austria’s top companies, including Baucon, an engineering consulting firm with expertise in cable car, road, bridge and power plant construction; the Bauer Group of 17 companies, specialising in irrigation technology and waste and energy management; and Geppert Hydropower, which plans, manufactures, installs and commissions electro-mechanical equipment for hydropower plants.
