French wine festival “Beaujolais Nouveau 2018” on 16th Nov 2018 @ Mercure Kabar Aye Hotel

Yangon – CCI France Myanmar, the French Myanmar Chamber of Commerce, will organize the third edition of the Beaujolais Nouveau festival in Myanmar, on Friday 16th November 2018, at 6.30 pm, at the Mercure Kaba Aye Hotel. Free bus shuttles sponsored by Europcar will be available between Melia Hotel and the venue.

The Beaujolais Nouveau is a typical French festival, similar to the Oktoberfest in Germany. It is an international tradition of wine culture long-awaited by a large audience around the world, wine lovers or not.

The wine will be flown directly from France for the event, with the support of AGS Four Winds and Bolloré Logistic. This year, food corners will be sponsored by some of the best restaurants in Yangon, who will offer French food to the participants: La Boulangerie Française/IECD, Mahlzeit Restaurant, MiCasa Restaurant (Mercure Kaba Aye Hotel), Olea (Melia Hotel), Ô’Thentic Restaurant, Shwe Sa Bwe Restaurant and The Penthouse Restaurant.

In addition, lucky draws will be organised with amazing gifts offered by Air France, Babett Restaurant, Bioderma, Excelsior Hotel, Inya Lake Hotel, Seeds Restaurant, The Warehouse and Yves Rocher, including a plane ticket to Paris. Finally, the festive ambiance will be guaranteed by a live rock concert performed by The Blues Corner Band.

Since 1951, the Beaujolais Nouveau has gradually become the symbol of the festive wine. Raised for very little time on lees, it conserves the taste of the fruit. The wine does not have time to gain in maturity. The aim is to speed up the winemaking process to produce the best wine possible in record time (maximum 3 months).

An expeditious harvest, a rapid fermentation and an accelerated bottling allow the Beaujolais Nouveau to be drunk on the third Thursday of November, on which the festival starts every year. A specificity of this wine is that all the grapes must be picked by hand only. These are the only vineyards, along with Champagne, where hand harvesting is mandatory. In general, the Beaujolais Nouveau has a bright red color, clear and brilliant, ruby with purple reflections, and a strong fruity taste. Nearly half of its production is exported to Asia, mainly in Japan and South Korea. The other half is mainly consumed by the French population.

“The Beaujolais Nouveau is a festive event mixing the French joy of life, gastronomy and traditional products”, explains Mr. Guillaume REBIERE, Executive Director of CCI France Myanmar. “In France, whole villages come together on that day to share wine, food and music, simply to have a good time with friends and relatives”.

Outside of France, this tradition has become the most popular French festival of the year. Indeed, “for French people, wine is only good when it is shared, since it is a symbol of friendship, of celebration, of happiness”, says Ms. Sarah Lubeigt President of CCI France Myanmar. “Therefore, it is important for us to share this with all our friends in Myanmar”.

The ticket costs 40 USD per person for a free flow of wine and food. Yet, early birds can benefit from the special rate of 30 USD if they buy their tickets before 19th October.

Walk-in participants will not be accepted.
