iDiscover launch the Yangon Circular Train Travel Guide

Discover the other side of Yangon with the circle line travel guide

The iDiscover Yangon is a series of travel guides to Yangon’s old and authentic neighbourhoods. The guides come as a savvy set of a printed map and an easy-to-navigate app, packed with insider secrets, handcrafted walking itineraries, beautiful photography and intimate background stories, all at your fingertips.

The newest addition to this timely travel product is a tailored guide for Yangon’s Circular Train. The epic railway journey is an increasingly popular feature on the Myanmar traveller’s must-do list, and this new guide makes it an even more worthwhile travel experience. iDiscover suggests six neighbourhoods that are worth a wander and a total of 50 sites where you can stop to eat, drink, shop or play. Highlighted neighbourhoods are Ahlone, home of the Karen, the humble traditional neighbourhood Kyeemyindaing, the vibrant student town Hledan, historic prison precinct Insein, Tadagale a village market with a golden pagoda and Mahlwagone a place of street life and sports. Off-the-beaten-track places that give the visitor an intimate glimpse in the daily life of the city.

The neighbourhoods and sites are handpicked by the curative team from Yangon based artisan shop Hla Day and students from Pre-collegiate Program Yangon. Together they hopped on the train to find hidden gems, local hotspots sand colourful characters under the guidance of the iDiscover team from Hong Kong and local urban explorers Sara Candiracci, Anna Livia Cullinan and the late Bon Percival. The map is beautifully illustrated by local artist Jackie Lynn.

The new Circular Railway guide wonderfully complements the current five iDiscover guides for downtown Yangon: Pansodan, China Town, Indian Quarter, the Secretariat and a special edition: Yangon Good Guide.

What’s next? The Yangon Art Map is in the making, showcasing all Yangon art galleries and creative spaces in one handy map.
