The motorbike market in Myanmar’s second largest city Mandalay has picked up according to motorbikes shops. This is in contrast to Yangon, where riding motorbikes in the city is legal.
“Motorbike sales are better than they were before. This is due, thanks in part, to installment payment programs, which most of the motorbike shops increasingly practice. Buyers prefer installment payment as the interest rate is not too high,”said Ko Aung Than Win, manager of Thein Htet Kyaw Co., ltd.
Motorbike Showrooms in Myanmar, offer various model of motorbikes made in Thailand and China. Some of them are now selling roughly 15 motorbikes per day under installment plans.
The Honda Click 125i 2019 model motorbikes that are made in Thailand are selling for K2.78 million, the 2018 model for K2.75 million, and another China brand is selling for 1 million kyats.
“Most of the buyers and sellers here are from villages. The motorbike market is not bad,”said Ko Naing Lin, a motorbike broker in Mandalay.
Prices of China made motorbikes depend on the fluctuation of Yuan, while prices of Thai made motorbikes reflect the current dollar exchange rate.
