Salient points of YUMRT clarified in Hlaingthaya

A ceremony to clarify salient points of Yangon Urban Mass Rapid Transit (YUMRT) was held in Hlaingthaya Township, Yangon Region on June 1.

Present on the occasion were General Manager Tun Aung Thin of Myanma Railways (Lower Myanmar), managers and officers of Division No 7 and Division No 9 of MM, officials of JICA and Yangon Region Government and parliamentarians of Lower House and Upper House at township level, regional parliamentarians and the officials.
“The YUMRT is to be prioritized. I would like to inform the people of the matters relating to the YUMRT,” said an official of the MM.

Japan is conducting feasibility study on the YUMRT. Eighteen-mile-long Hlaingthaya to Parami railway stations, which is the prioritized part of the YUMRT, will be implemented, according to JICA Myanmar Office.
High-class urban rail transport, better bus system and other transport services are needed to fulfill the transport need of Yangon travelling people.

The JICA began feasibility study on the YUMRT in 2018 May.

Yangon traffic congestion of today becomes worse than the previous, but not worse than Bangkok and Jakarta. If Yangon traffic congestion is worse than now, it will be impossible to begin the work of YUMRT. Therefore, it is required to implement the YUMRT as quickly as possible. The YUMRT will provide Yangon urban people a mass transport service for the first time, said Mr Masayuki Karasawa, Chief Representative of JICA Myanmar Office.
