Muse-Lashio-Mandalay railroad, the longest one in Myanmar

Myanma Railways (MR) plans to construct the Muse-Lashio-Mandalay railroad which is 267 miles in length and includes 60 tunnels. It will become the longest railroad section in Myanmar, said Myo Win, General Manager (Upper Myanmar) of the MR.

The China Railway Eryuan Engineering Group (CREC) conducted the feasibility studies from January to May, this year.

From June 25 to July 2, the third party will conduct the EIA and the SIA and explains the facts about the feasibility studies in Mandalay, Naungcho, Kyaukme, Lashio, Hseinwi and Muse Townships.

The MR under the Ministry of Transport and Communications signed a MoU on Feasibility for Muse-Mandalay- Railway Project, with China Railway Eryuan Engineering Group (CREC) at the ministry in Nay Pyi Taw on October 22, 2018.

The feasibility studies cover GPS measurement, total station equipment, taking samples of water, earth and gravel and soil test.

The project will be jointly developed by the government of Myanmar and China. It will be two times faster than Yangon-Mandalay expressway. The trip between Muse and Mandalay will take around three hours.

The Muse and Mandalay railroad is 431 km long. It will cover seven stations for cargo and passengers, five stations for passengers and 24 diversions. The train can run at a speed of 160 km per hour (99 miles).
