Judges should make decision reasonably and wisely, winning trust of people: Yangon Chief Minister

Judges should strive to assess cases and give verdicts reasonably and wisely, winning the trust of the people, Yangon Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein.

The move came from the speech of the Yangon Chief Minister to the coordination meeting of regional judicial related departments and organizations regarding judicial strategic plan (2018-2020) held at the office of Yangon Region Government on July 8.

U Phyo Min Thein, Yangon Region Chief Minister, vows to regain public’s trust regarding his policies, ensure a pathway for a thorough investigation to take place and respect the decision of the judge. We will inspect whether the lawsuits we have filed are justified to an extent. We will observe whether the judge’s decision are in accordance with the rule of law and come to a resolution that satisfies all parties. We hope that once the investigation has seized, it will help us regain the confidence of the people.

There was a book on the cases investigated in the colonial era. In this book, the British tried to depict justice when it was observed. The British strove for illustrating to spotlight much more justice they value rather than Myanmar people. For that reason, it is imperative that all Myanmar judges, as Myanmar citizens, should now prove the cases investigated by themselves just and fair, said U Phyo Min Thein.

If the rule of law can’t be restored, it obstructs the ideals of a democratic government that fails to protect the citizens’ human right. It is also required to give protection to all people under a just and fair judicial procedure, said U Phyo Min Thein.

Rule of law is of great importance in Myanmar. Judicial pillar alone can’t restore rule of law. Administrative and legislative pillars can support the judicial sector. Moreover, administrative and legislative pillars need cooperation, said U Phyo Min Thein.

The legislative branch should consider all enacted laws to be the ones by which the people can abide. The administrative branch should rapidly deal with the cases following the arrest of the police. The judicial branch should handle the cases within entrusted power through logical and sensible way, said U Phyo Min Thein.
