New entrepreneur’s association formed to voice concerns

Myanmar entrepreneurs now have a new platform to voice their concerns and to share knowledge and experience among members with the formation of the Myanmar Entrepreneurs Association (MEA).

The MEA was inaugurated on August 22 with U Ko Ko Htwe as the chair of the association, while a number of industry groups including the Myanmar Construction Entrepreneurs Association, Myanmar Fisheries Federation together with its 11 related associations, Myanmar Travel Entrepreneurs Association together with other related organisations and Myanmar Gems and Jewelry Entrepreneurs Association were among lobby and industry groups that have proposed to join.

He said the MEA seeks to be a platform for entrepreneurs to share their knowledge and experience in their various industries in areas such as human resources, machinery and finances among others.

U Ko Ko Htwe said the MEA would be organized throughout the country and seeks to support networking among entrepreneurs as well as give them a platform through which they can cooperate.

The MEA also wants to do its bit for national development and also be a bridge between the government and entrepreneurs. “Myanmar is rich in natural resources and has a large population with qualified people but our economy faces lots of issues that is holding it back. We want to be a platform championing policy that can help entrepreneurs,” U Ko Ko Htwe said.

“We’re better off if we can champion issues as a group and in Myanmar, there are no such entities that cuts across industries. If there is an umbrella group that can champion our issues, we’ll do better. There are spillover effects too as successful entrepreneurs is good for the economy,” he added.
