CarsDB Auto Show sells over 500 cars

CarsDB, the online retailer reshaping Myanmar’s car market, sold over 500 cars at their auto show held on last month at The One Entertainment Park in Yangon.

The event was aimed at car lovers, car retailers and those wishing to sell – all of whom gathered to browse and discuss all things car-related in the weather-proof building.

It was also an opportunity for manufacturers and mechanics, as well as banks and insurance companies, to advertise their services. Many visitors found the hire-purchase option appealing for their first automobile purchases, given that such finance arrangements are relatively new to Myanmar consumers.

A mix of luxury and popular brands were represented, from Chinese manufacturers like BAIC to German and US brands like Borgward, Ford and Chevrolet. These sat alongside the British classics like Jaguar and Land Rover. South Korean and Japanese giants were also on show, including the newest models from Hyundai, Isuzu, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Suzuki and Toyota.

“More exhibitors and buyers attended the event than any other year in the show’s history. Sales for car companies always improve as a result of the show, but this year consumers had more information about the companies, finance options and insurance packages. Over 500 units were sold, which includes both brand new and used cars,” said U Wai Phyo Kyaw, COO and Co founder of CarsDb.

The event coincided with the launch of Toyota and Mitsubishi’s new models for the local market, as well as Land Rover’s global “Above and Beyond Tour”.

Toyota announced the official launch of its Corolla Altis in Myanmar, a model that shows off the latest design combined with interior electronic and engineering excellence.

The all-new Corolla Altis is truly remarkable for the leading-edge driving performance made possible by the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA), bringing to life a unique Fun-To-Drive experience.

The latest Toyota Safety Sense is a one-of-a-kind safety feature that consists of the newly developed Pre-Collision System – a system designed to minimise the impact of collisions.

The Dynamic Radar Cruise Control is another technological enhancement, and works with a radar system to detect the speed of surrounding vehicles. With this data the cruise control adjusts the car’s speed and acceleration to ensure that there is a safe distance between the surrounding cars when driving and stopping.

The model is also equipped with a Lane Departure Alert and Lane Tracing Assist mechanism, further aiding the driver navigate traffic and lane changing. When activated the system assists the driver to maintain the car’s position in the center of the lane, even as the car travels around curves.

The all-new Corolla Altis is on sale for US$36,000, and is available in 7 different exterior, and two interior, colour schemes. The prestige sedan also comes with a three-year or 100,000 km warranty and comprehensive after-sales support through authorised Toyota dealerships.

‘’Our company has really enjoyed the show this year. Consumers have been able to come and see for themselves our latest Altis model, as well as all the other brands and models on the market – all in one place. Banks and finance organisations are also supporting the event, helping consumers with hire purchase. For the new Corolla, we hope that the demand will continue to be high after this year’s event,” said U Myo Mint Thein, chief operations officer at Toyota Aye and Sons.

This year Land Rover’s Above and Beyond tour will be held in Yangon. The tour will see a group of Land Rover drivers take on a series of obstacle courses, designed to simulate the challenging terrain of the great outdoors, as part of the brand’s global driving competition.

Under the guidance of Land Rover instructors, participants will be able to drive either the Discovery Sport or the Discovery through three fun challenges that could win them a once- in-a-lifetime driving adventure on the Above and Beyond Tour Grand Final in Namibia.

Winners are selected from different countries, and will commence a eight-day tour starting from the capital of Windhoek, enjoying the beautiful plains and wildlife of the West African national parks.

A number of Land Rover enthusiasts took part in the Yangon challenge, which was held at The One Entertainment Park during the CarsDB Auto Show Yangon.

For those interested in the pickup and utility range, MM Cars Myanmar introduced its mighty L200 model on November 15.

The all-new L200 is designed to get you back from any outback adventure in one piece, with its rugged exterior and stable design. Shielded by a strong, dynamic front grille the body is robust, stylish and sporty.

The 6-speed automatic transmission includes a “sport mode”, with optimised gear ratios to assist carrying heavy loads up hill.

The improved fuel economy will make country trips less expensive, and quieter – given its muted engine.

Mitzubishi have also added Solid Safety measures to the L200, which includes collision safety measures using the RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) system, effectively helping to absorb energy while simultaneously maintaining cabin integrity in the event of a collision.

The L200 comes with a price tag of US$39,900 for high grade model, and $35,900 for no-frills option. It is available in four different colours: White Diamond, Sterling Silver Metallic, Jet Black Mica and Sunflare Orange Pearl.

‘’The CarsDB Auto Show caters to a growing consumer base in Myanmar, and it’s a wonderful event that benefits buyers and sellers, as well as the general public. It was an excellent opportunity for some companies to launch their latest models, and for consumers to compare the different features, prices and brands,” said Chair of Myanmar Automobile Manufacturers and Distributors Association.
