China’s 9 Air airline began offering three flights a week from Yangon to Haikou, the capital and main transportation hub of Hainan province, on Sunday.
The low-cost airline, a subsidiary of Juneyao Airlines, will offer flights between the two cities on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
Thirty-seven international airlines offer flights to 38 destinations at Yangon International Airport, including 13 Chinese airlines serving 19 foreign destinations.
China began wooing Myanmar travellers after the country relaxed its visa requirements for Japanese, South Korean and Chinese tourists in September. Since then, China has increased the number of flights to Myanmar, and tourism between the two countries has expanded.
‘’More Chinese visitors are coming to Myanmar,” said U Kyaw Myo, a tourist guide.
At the end of last year, Chinese airlines 9 Air, Sichuan Airlines, China Eastern, and Hainan increased their flights from Yangon and Mandalay to Wuhan, Sichuan, Shanghai, Xi’an, Chengdu, and other Chinese cities.
