MAI cancels China flight, offers passengers refunds

Myanmar Airways International announced the suspension of its flight to China starting on Friday as the new coronavirus outbreak worsened in that country.

The airline said Thursday it would allow passengers with tickets to Guangzhou (CAN) to reschedule their flight or get a refund.

‘’We saw the announcement of the suspension of MAI flights on its website,’’ an airport official said.

MAI flies to the Chinese cities of Hangzhou, Hefei, Jinan, Jinjiang, Linyi, Nanchang, Nanjing, Ningbo, Qingdao and Yantai.

The airport official said airlines that had cancelled their flights to China as of Wednesday included China Eastern Airline, 9 Air, JC Cambodia, Qingdao Airlines, Xiamen Airlines, Hainan Air, and Spring Air.

JC Cambodia will stop flying its Yangon-China routes starting Friday. Hainan Air cancelled its China-Yangon flights starting Friday until March 28. Qingdao Airlines will stop flying to Yangon from February 3 until February 7.

Flights between Wuhan and Yangon, and Wuhan and Mandalay have been suspended until February 29 to prevent the spread of the virus to Myanmar, the airport official said.

Mandalay airport authorities said that Chinese airlines have also suspended flights from Xiamen, Guangzhou and Guiyang until February 3.
