2000 coronavirus testing kits from China to arrive in Myanmar tonight

Myanmar is expected to receive around two thousand testing kits from China on Tuesday night, said Chinese ambassador Chen Hai.

In the fight against the pandemic COVID-19, the Chinese government has donated a total of 2016 coronavirus nucleic acid testing kits which are scheduled to arrive in Yangon International Airport at 11:40pm on March 17. Officials from the Myanmar Ministry of Health and Sports and the National Health Laboratory are expected to be present.

Last Wednesday, the Chinese Consulate in Mandalay donated 10 thousand surgical masks and 500 bottles of hand sanitisers to the Mandalay airport.

“With the aim of building a China-Myanmar community with a shared future and the two country’s Pauk-Phaw relations, we have begun to support and cooperate with Myanmar multilaterally,” said Chinese ambassador to Myanmar, Chen Hai.

He explained that both the Chinese and Myanmar governments have been sharing the most updated information on the situation in China and the medical treatments taken to cure the disease.

In the near future, supplies of surgical masks, protective clothing, body temperature detector doors and other urgently needed protective and medical equipment will also be provided by China, he said.

The world has seen an exponential growth of confirmed cases in the past few days, especially in Europe and America. Cumulative confirmed cases have climbed to over 183,000 people and killed more than 7,100.

Regionally, the Malaysian government announced on Monday a two-week lockdown, stopping foreign travellers and closing the country’s borders. While the Philippines have sent about 50 million people under an “enhanced community quarantine”, which included a lockdown of the country’s largest island Luzon where Manila is situated.
