During the COVID-19 curfew period, the operating hours for container trucks will be changed from 7am to 8pm in Yangon Region, U Than Lwin, patron of Myanmar Container Truck Association, said on April 22.
“The logistics sector can still operate smoothly if we make these changes. There is no heavy traffic during midday and so it is convenient for the container trucks to operate,” he said.
The Yangon Region Government instructed the Traffic Rules Enforcement Supervisory Committee to supervise the operating hours not to leave earlier or later than the fixed time and not to occur traffic jams and accidents.
The original operating hours for the trucks were from 9pm to 6am so as to reduce traffic jam during day time. Those hours have now been changed to 7am to 8pm daily as a result of the curfew.
Over 2-tonne vehicles are designated as trucks in Yangon Region and currently, 58,611 container trucks are registered at Yangon Region Transport Authority.
