Myanmar to boost brand for foreign markets

Myanmar will strengthen its product branding to make locally made goods more competitive on the international market, a senior official said.
U Thet Lwin Oo, deputy director of the Ministry of Commerce’s Myanmar Trading Promotion Organisation, said the strategy aims to improve the quality of produce
and conduct a media campaign to boost consumer awareness.

“We’ll produce goods under the Myanmar brand,” he said, “and campaign to make our products known in the international media.”
He said his agency will promote sein ta lone mangos and thanaka cosmetic paste, among others.
“We will discuss which markets to target and what support we can give,” he said. “First, we will educate people about our brand, how to penetrate the market, and how to exhibit at foreign events.”

The government has began diversifying its markets to make it less dependent on exports to China, which is the destination of over 33 percent of the country’s exports.Other foreign markets and market shares include Thailand, 18.3pc; Japan, 8.3pc; India, 3.4pc; Hong Kong, 3.4pc; Germany and United States, 3pc each; Singapore.
