DCA releases COVID-19 prevention guidelines for domestic airlines in Myanmar

The Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) has released COVID-19 prevention guidelines for domestic airlines, including a disinfection process onboard before and after landings.

“The department has issued instructions for both passengers and staff to reduce physical contact. We will stop serving food and distributing blankets but passengers will receive packages when they alight. I think the officials release such instructions in order to make sure things are safe,” said U Tin Maung Than, general manager of Air KBZ.

Moreover, flight attendants wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will serve the passengers and the planes are also sprayed with disinfectant after every single route, he said.

The department released the statement to spray disinfectant or carry out cleaning procedures in line with the norms of international airlines. It includes checking the health of flight attendants before the plane takes off, confirming whether they have had any close contact with COVID-19 patients, wearing PPEs, offering services by avoiding direct contact with the passengers in the cabin, wearing facemasks and screening body temperatures.

There are five domestic airlines in Myanmar. There were only 13,151 domestic landings and take-offs between January and June, representing a decline of 22 percent
compared to the same period last year. – Translated
