Yangon veggie delivery service seeks partners

Businesses are invited to take part in a Yangon Farmers Market programme to deliver vegetables to 39 townships in Yangon Region, said U Min Zaw, executive committee member of the Myanmar Fruit, Flower and Vegetable Producers and Exporters Association.

The programme will sell vegetables from Yangon Region as well as from Naungtayar in Pinlaung township and Pindaya township in Shan State.

“We will make sure that those who work with us will make money and be able to offer produce at reasonable prices. We will follow all government guidelines for COVID-19,” U Min Zaw said.

Due to the surge in COVID-19, many townships are in partial lockdown, which allows only one person per household to go out shopping. Food delivery services are costly, so many people rely on local markets or street vendors for produce.

The programme now has only three vans but hopes to be able to deliver fresh produce to 39 townships if more businesses join with them, he said.

“We will sell vegetables at reasonable prices,” he added.

The farmers market vans are not allowed to sell produce in six downtown townships – Latha, Lanmadaw, Pabedan, Kyauktada, Pazundaung and Botahtaung.
