TAUNGGYI——Taunggyi Township,, Southern Shan State, will not allow holding of the hot-air balloon festival at the night of full moon day of Thadingyut which will fall on October 31st, says Administrator Phyo Min Htike from Taunggyi Township.
The Taunggyi Township Festival Observance Committee banned the annual festival that always attracts a massive crowd, held in Ahwaiyar playground in Taunggyi Township on October 31st due to the COVID-19 outbreak. That’s why, the committee already informed the Hot-air balloon amateur team about cancelling the hot-air balloon festival.
“The cabinet of Shan State Government didn’t make the decision. The Ministry of Health and Sports banned mass gathering and religious activities on March 31st. It means that a hot-air balloon festival wouldn’t be held with a massive crowd,” said Phyo Min Htike.
Likewise, the Taunggyi Township issued the regional orders on October 21st saying that no one was allowed dealing and firing of fireworks. If a person will break the above order, he or she will be taken action against.
The Hot-Air Balloon Festival is celebrated annually. Many travellers were visiting the first day of the festival, and it is one of the famous festivals in Myanmar.
The Taunggyi’s hot-air balloons and firework-launching competition is the most prominent festival. The origin of Taunggyi’s hot-air balloons contest dates back to 1894 when the British first held the hot air balloon competitions in Taunggyi.
