Amid the pandemic, Avis Myanmar plans to invest around USD 4 million for their new fleets expansion and two new rental outlets in Myanmar

Avis, one of the world’s leading car rental brands, has marked its first year journey in Myanmar with the plan to continue their footprint and investment in the country amid the global pandemic COVID-19.The company has been providing the global standardization for short and long-term vehicle rental services with fresh new fleet for individual as well as corporate customers from local to multinational organizations.

The pandemic Covid-19 profoundly changed the global political and economic arena. With the rising number of total COVID-19 confirmed cases in Myanmar, the economy and businesses especially in the tourism industry have been severely affected.However, Avis Myanmar believes in the prospect of the country after this challenging period with the plan to continue the investment by tripling the size of Avis Fleet in 2021 with estimated investment values around USD 4 million.Prasoporn Tansupasiri, General Manager of Avis Myanmar remarks, “We are confident in Myanmar long-term economic prospects although the pandemic triggered some business disruptions that many industries are facing.

We strongly believe that Myanmar will pass this difficult time and the country will regain economic growth that stimulates the investments that will give us the opportunity to deliver our products and services to the end-users.”
The outbreak poses a huge impact on vehicle rental business due to the restrictions, the absence of tourists and international businesses.

Prasoporn Tansupasiri, General Manager of Avis Myanmar, commented “I am afraid that there is no exception to car rental business when it comes to Covid-19 pandemic impact. As the pandemic posted great challenge to global mobility, Avis short-term car rental volume especially hotel limousine dropped significantly, starting from late Q1 and continued till present because of stricter travel restrictions.”

Avis Myanmar has continued the business operation in accordance with the guidelines by the Ministry of Health and Sports of Myanmar as well as the Avis Global Operational Readiness Health and Safety Standards. To combat with the effect from Covid-19, Avis Myanmar has introduced new values add services to meet customers’ needs.

“Fortunately, we were able to manage short-term units to serve as monthly rentals as the demand for private vehicle elevated. Some companies hire extra units to mitigate risk of their employees using public transportation. In response to this, we launched Avis Ferry Service which includes vehicle rental, driver service, fuel, passenger insurance, route management and disinfection service in Yangon on multiple platforms like van and minibus”, she added.

On top of that, Avis plans to open two new outlets at business cities such as Nay Pyi Taw and Mandalay. Around 50 new job opportunity will be created for local people and will provide set of trainings to enhance staff capacity.
