Ngapali hotels reopen to small turnout

A small number of hotels and resorts in Ngapali beach have reopened their doors but the response has been disappointing.
Five establishments – Amazing Ngapali Resort, AZ Family Resort Hotel, Royal Linthar Lodge, Kyaw Myanmar Lodge and Htein Linn Thar Guest House – out of over 60 hotels at Ngapali beach were allowed to reopen in accordance with the SOPs issued by the Ministry of Health and Sports.

“People who come by air do not need to be quarantined as they have been tested for COVID-19. But those who come by car must undergo quarantine when they arrive. At the moment, there are only two-digit numbers of visitors at the reopened hotels,” said assistant director at the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism U Myint Soe.

An in-house guest staying at Amazing Ngapali Resort tested positive for COVID-19 on January 7, 2021, before the guest returned to Yangon. As such, the hotel has announced that it will temporarily close from January 8, in line with the guidelines by the health and sports ministry.

“In the meantime, we have to manage depending on the COVID-19 situation in the country. We have to stick to the COVID-19 guidelines and proceed step by step.” said one hotelier. As of writing, approximately 10 hotels in Ngapali have sent requests to the relevant authorities to resume their operations.- Translated
