5 EV charging stations to be established at 5 locations on Yangon – Mandalay Expressway

THE pilot project will be implemented to construct five charging stations at five locations on the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway, the Ministry of Electric Power announced. One charging station has a capacity of 50 electric vehicles and a total of 250 vehicles can be charged at the same time in five stations. The first five charging stations will be at Zero Mile No 3 Highway junction, 115th Mile Pyu Rest Stop, 201/2nd milepost Nay Pyi Taw C-junction, 284/4th milepost Theegon bus terminal and 352/3rd milepost Sagainn junction on the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway. The ministry also informed the YESC and MESC to submit the names and locations of the 66 and 33 kV substations, grid and main power stations to expand a 20 MVA substation and new power grid for the charging stations. Officials should carry out the work licences for location, factory and workshops for the assembly of electric vehicles in municipality areas, implement charging stations at the parking spaces of public areas and relevant committees should submit their work plans to the leading committees, said Yangon Mayor U Bo Htay during the second coordination meeting of the national electric vehicles and related industry development steering committee and the supervisory committee on the special concession of the electric vehicles and related industry held on 24 August. Officials reported on the taxation, policy and procedures for the electric car assembly factory and industry in industrial zones, licence requirements for municipal areas for factories and related businesses and 36 locations for charging stations. Moreover, they discussed import, export and assembly of materials for electric vehicles, creation of chances to improve the use of electric cars, submission of a draft to the steering committee regarding non-budget sectors and management sector, and incentive measures to expand the use of electric cars and lure the public interest and matters related to the management to save fees for the use of roads, bridges and parking spaces.
