Proposed Foreign-Ownership in Existing Myanmar Local Company

Under the New Companies Law 2017 (Pyidaungsu Hluttaw Law No. 29) which becomes effective 1st August 2018 – a Myanmar company where less than 35% of the share ownership (in terms of voting right) is owned by foreigners with the remaining shares owned by Myanmar citizens are treated as local Myanmar company. So technically the local Myanmar company can own land and is able to apply for an import/export licence i.e. able to operate a trading and distribution business.
